Boston Celtics/a pre-pro Celtic?

Question
Mr. Anderle,

I met a man here in El Paso,Tx a few years ago who was approaching his 90's. A very nice gentleman-and very tall. He said he played ball for the Celtics in 1929 or so. I asked for his autograph. His name is Larry Riley. Any possibility of finding anything on a Celtic from so long ago?

Thank you,

         Douglas

Answer
Dear Douglas,

the Boston Celtics were born on June 6, 1946 as a part of the BAA League experiment, so I am rather sure when I say that Mr. Riley was never part of the project. Maybe he played for the New York Original Celtics, the team which barnstormed the U.S.A. from 1915 to the second part of the 20's, but I have no evidence of a Larry Riley being a part of them, and anyway it is beyond my expertise finding anything about this other team.
If you want to know a little more about the Original Celtics and start a research,
http://www.hoophall.com/halloffamers/Celtics%20Original.htm
is the Hall of Fame site where you can start from..
I hope this helps
