I remember that game, but I recall the details a little differently. The Senators led 12 to 5 going into the bottom of the 9th. Boston won 13 to 12. I'm thinking the game was in the late 50s or early 60s.

I remember watching this game on television. The final score was 13-12, The Red Sox scored 8 runs after two outs in the 9th.
The game was played on June 18th, 1961. The box score and play-by-play is here.http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1961/B06181BOS1961.htm

Hi Geoff and Burton,
I believe Burton is right. The Boston Red Sox scored 9 runs in the 9th inning on Father's day. Some where between 1950 and 1960. My dad remembers that much detail in his memory. I'd like to give him some more details. I'll continue to look but I think this is something to build from.

Hello, I found this, but don't know if anyone still reads it. There was a game against Cleveland in August of 1950. The Red Sox were down 12 to 1 came back to win 15-14.
The most spectacular come back was in 1961.They were down 12-5 in the ninth against Washington with one on and one out. They went on to win the game 13-12. I was 13. I gave up on the game and went out to cut the lawn earlier.
