Boston Terriers/Urinary crystals in Boston boy;

Question
My Boston has been diagnosed with Urinary crystals.  The vet switched his food about 4 wks ago.  Now he is still peeing in his crate.  I feed him 1.5 hrs before then take him out just before I leave for work.  I come home at lunch to a wet crate.  How do I get him to stop peeing in his crate?  Plus now he pees when he gets excited.  He's almost a year old.

Answer
Hi Tom, Well, I understand your concern.  No fun cleaning up a wet crate all the time!
It may take some time for your boy to heal.  I am sure he must of had a Urinary Infection.
As the swelling goes down the problems will stop.
I can suggest 2 supplements that will help your Boston kid.

1.  Cranberry - Look for a good cranberry supplement - see here:

http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/pg/877-Urinary-Tract-Health-.aspx

Doc Roy’s Potassium Citrate + Cranberry Granules are a highly palatable supplement recommended to help prevent the formation of calcium oxalate stones in the bladder and for maintaining urinary tract health. Most calcium oxalate stones develop in cats between the ages of 5 and 14 years and in dogs between ages 5 and 12 years.

Cranberry extract has been demonstrated to enhance urinary tract health and will not increase the urine pH. The extract is high in anti-oxidants and it is believed this prevents the bacteria from adhering to the urinary lining and colonizing, which is beneficial to prevent urinary tract infections.

2.  NuVet Plus - 1 Wafer per day will sure help the Urinary system and aids in fighting off infection by re-building a weak immune system.......
