Question
I'm supposed to go on an African Safari to the Serengetti and through Botswana with Abercrombie and Kent in Sept. of this year.  I wanted to know how safe it is to go and if you think I'm risking my life going there or should I go somewhere else where I wouldn't be putting my life in as much jeopardy.  Do you know how often people get really sick, hurt (by Africans), and/or die by some other way when they go there for vacation with a group like Abercrombie and Kent.  I heard this is a terrible time to go and that we shouldn't go at this time because of the extreme dangers.  Please let me know what you can.

Thank You,
Joli

Answer
Hi Joli,
Most of Africa is extremely safe.  Southern Africa is very safe and Botswana the safest country in Southern Africa.  Abercrombie & Kent is probably the best operator that takes visitors to Africa.  They have an incredible reputation for caring for their guests.  You do need a few vaccinations and malaria pills but it is no big deal.  Follow the advice of you doctor and the A&K representative and you will have a fantastic time.  Africa is often misunderstood and the fear comes from a lack of knowledge.  Take this trip, you will be safe, happy and have the adventure of a lifetime.
During your trip you will be at less risk than if you were in any western capital.   Enjoy.  Simon
