Botswana/Botswana Safari
Expert: Simon O`Hara - 2/8/2001
QuestionWe would like to make a safari to "non tourist" destinations in southern Africa. Rather than specifically avoiding the expense, we want to spend some time in unspoilt places. An occasional night of accommodation between camps is a welcome break, but we love camping.
We have a double cab, long wheelbase Unimog 1750/L38 (437.131) kitted out for camping - lots of water, fuel, spares etc, as well as a Defender 110 also well kitted out.
We would like to try to find a guide to either brief us or even accompany us on these trips, and are comfortable with paying for this as long as we get value.
In June we have a trip planned as far as Etosha, where we leave 4 July. From here we have 10 days where we would like to return via Botswana. Like every country, I am certain that Botswana has some beautiful places that or off the beaten track.
Could you advise. Perhaps a telephone conversation would make this easier. My work number is 011 803 1281.
AnswerHi Granville,
I am based in Mexico City where I now sell safaris so I won´t phone you! I would love to come with you myself. You sound very well prepared. I will give you the contact details of some companies that specialise in individual overland travel. They also provide guides for individuals such as yourselves who have their own vehicles.

I've listed them in order of whom I think will be most useful to you.
I am jealous, I haven't been on an overland journey for 18 months now when I explored the sahara a little. Good luck, I hope these contacts will supply what you are looking for.
