About Laura Brierley
Expertise
I`ve been a huge Bowie fan for some time now. I`ve read up on his life and I`m well versed in his music. I love Bowie sites on the web, so if I don`t know the answer I could refer you to someone who does.

Experience
I've listened to Bowie for a few years now, have collected all of his albums tirelessly, read up on his life quite a bit and followed his career over the last few years.

Bowie, David - Bewlay Brothers

Expert: Laura Brierley - 1/26/2005

Question
Do you know what this song is about?  Beautiful song but not sure if the Bewlay Brothers are fictional or not.  Seems to be a drug induced diatribe from Bowies New York party days w/Andy Warhol.

Answer
The song is supposed to be based on David's relationship with his older brother, Terry.  terry was a huge influence on david, introducing him to jazz and the beat poets, factors that would massively shape his musical career later.  It probably has a large content based on his drug abuse too, perhaps te life he was leading when living with Angie and many friends in a mansion in a very unconventional way.  This may be a reflection upon the way that David would experiment and absorb culture in his youth, combined with the effects of substance abuse and his unusual circumstances.
