About Laura Brierley Expertise I`ve been a huge Bowie fan for some time now. I`ve read up on his life and I`m well versed in his music. I love Bowie sites on the web, so if I don`t know the answer I could refer you to someone who does.
Experience I've listened to Bowie for a few years now, have collected all of his albums tirelessly, read up on his life quite a bit and followed his career over the last few years.
The simple answer to the question concerning Bowie's sexuality Ref: http://experts.about.com/q/403/3905055.htm?zIr=1
is the he is bisexual. A bisexual is a person who is attracted to both men & women.
Bowie appears to a bit confused about it, but he has always given out very contradictory signals on a whole range of issues throughout his entire career. This is why he is so "interesting". His ex-wife Angie has never been confusing when talking about her sexuality - she has always been openly bisexual and has written a book about it & has a website dedicated to the subject of bisexuality.
Bisexuality is actually much more common than homosexuality. This is becoming increasingly apparent as people gradulally become more relaxed on the issue of same-sex attraction. Consider Angelina Jolie & Drew Barrymore.
Because Bowie now appears to be settled in "straight" relationship doesn't mean that he is no longer bisexual or that he never was. People still make a lot of ill-informed assumptions concerning sexuality - example: Actress Cynthia Nixon is a "lesbian" because she is in a lesbian relationship. She was in a relationship with a man for 15 years and had children with him. It is therefore far more likely that she is a bisexual woman in a relationship with a woman. Assuming all same-sex relationships happen between homosexual people is a common example of biphobia. http://allies.tamu.edu/Did%20You%20Know/biphobia.htm
Answer I suggest if you want to air your views about sexuality you do it somewhere more appropriate - questions go to Expert's inboxes in their personal email accounts. If you don't need an answer, do this somewhere else please, it's a bit of a waste of my time.
As for Bowie, it's well documented and admitted by him that he was never genuinely bisexual - he has always been heterosexual but announced that he was gay as a publicity stunt in the early 70's, when this would have been a very controversial move. Later, he admitted that he was in fact never gay, and deemed himself a "closet heterosexual". He had experimented in his youth, but that does not make him bisexual - he has always been curious about many things, the influence of his explorations being heard in his music and seen in his art and appearance. He has had one serious relationship with a man, Lindsay Kemp, but a lot of this was a creative bond. compared to the number of women he's been with over the years, I think his homosexual exploits can be put down to curiosity and experimentation.
