Expert: Jamie Soule - 6/13/2001
QuestionIve just looked at the questions already asked page, and noticed someone asked you if bowie was ever involved with jagger.
I dont know about that, but around the time the film THE HUNGER came out,I certinly remember reading,in bowies own words,"we used to have a bi night".He was talking of himself and his wife.
Is it true?
Answer
Hi Jason,
The answer to your question is "no." There were no "Bi" nights.
The reason I say this s that there is not one piece of evidence or one credible person to collaborate any of this. and David Bowie is not credible. Most people who have been following Bowie for many years have learned the lesson to not believe anything that comes out of his mouth in an interview which is the least bit suspect. If Bowie said it there is a good chance it is a lie. Bowie is the master a manipulating the media and he feeds them packs of lies at times to get press coverage. It also enhances his reputation of being "different."
As a Bowie fan it is always wise to seek second party information to verify what Bowie says. He has admitted many times that he plays the media so you have to be quite careful when it comes to believing him. Never believe everything you read. Don't you find it quite odd that Bowie has been in the media since 1967 and in those thirty four years only Bowie and Angela have said he is bi. No one who is close to him or has worked with him has said he was anything but straight. His first manager Ken Pitt, who was a homosexual, got jealous because Bowie was straight and kept bringing girls home.. He constantly spurned any of Pitt's advances. Do you not find it rather odd that there is not one photograph in existence of Bowie with a so called "male lover?" Most photos show him with incredibly beautiful women. There would be a rather large sum of money to be made if one of these lovers wrote a tell tale book and few artists have been spared having this done. No one in Bowie's life except Angela has said anything. If you look he happens to be married. The fact is that in thirty two years not one shred of credible evidence has surfaced to substantiate this story and until it does one would be wise to dismiss it. On the other hand there is a mountain of credible evidence to prove he is straight.
This is not the first time Bowie has done this. If you believe everything he says then you must also believe these statements:
1) His last show he ever did was at the Hammersmith on July 3rd, 1973. On that date he said, "It's the last show we'll ever do." He has "retired" three times.
2) He wrote a play about the life of Goebles, Hitlers propaganda minister. He said it in Stockholm in 76.
3) He was going to buy land to start his own country. September 76
4) Never Let Me Down was one of his most successful albums. Interview in 89
5) He met Angela because they were dating the same man. Interview 1975
6) He is involved in boxing to stay fit. Article 1983
7) He will run for Prime Minister of Britain. 1976
8) He married Melissa Hurley who was a dancer in The Glass Spider Tour. 1989 Bowie issued statement complete with "honeymoon" photo.
9) England would benefit from a Fascist government. 1976
10) He stole his clothes from garbage cans. 1986
11) His songs have no meaning 1976
12) He only got into music for the money 1975
13) He sleeps upright in a box 1970
14) He didn't give a Nazi salute at Victoria Station. Every eye witness claims he did and he gave four more at Wembley.
15) I'll never marry again. Frequently
16) I'm going back to experimental music. Unfortunately untrue. 1987.
17) I'm going to write my autobiography. 1983
18) I'm writing screenplays for some movies I am going to make. 1987
19) Hours is comparable to Hunky Dory.
20) I go out with young Japanese boys.
22) He will not play any older songs after 1990
These are just a few but the list is endless. What is rather interesting is the "bizarre" statements seem to coincide with a need to get public attention. The "gay admission" came at a time when a fourteen concert tour of Britain was selling so poorly that it would have been cancelled in all probability ending his career. The Nazi statements surfaced when he had a six night stint at Wembley that had not sold out. Some concerts in Europe had audiences of three thousand. This statement about "bi" night comes at a very interesting time. He made the movie in 1982. At that time he had done very little to stay in the spotlight which is paramount for a celebrity. He had not toured in four years and although his previous album did well, it was no where near a huge seller. It is rather conspicuous that these "revelations" of Mr. Bowie's seem to come at a time when he desperately needs exposure or profit. Most of his statements seem to coincide with one or the other and that is no accident. It is playing the media for exposure. He does it well.
There are those fans out there who swear by what Bowie says. Well if they believe he is "bi" because he said it then they have a small problem to contend with. You see, Bowie told Rolling Stone magazine in 1983 that the worst thing he ever did was tell Melody Maker he was a homosexual. He went on to explain that he had always been straight. He was voted the most homophobic star of 1983 by The New York Native which is a magazine catering to the gay population.
Bowie has always told the press the rather absurd and as fans we know that it is important to dig beneath an interview. The fact remains that no one can produce one shred of credible evidence to support the "bi" nights and until they do it remains one of Bowie's "manipulations."
I am sorry for the delay in responding to you but I had some matters which needed my attention. Would you please take the time to rate me as an expert. This is important as it gives me an idea of the quality of my responses.
Thank you.
