I have heard several tales from one of Bowie's ex-managers - the pre-Pitt Ralph Horton, who is little-documented in the scheme of things - that Bowie was a little more than just "unsure".  

I have never read anything that Angie has written (I can only imagine), but Horton was quite adamant in his tales.  He was quite perturbed also on my lending him Ken Pitt's biography as he, Horton, still has the negatives to many of the photos, and that they were published without his consent. (Also that Bowie still owes him £200!)



Also, you should maybe do some further reading on Lou Reed - there's plenty out there that suggests he was at one time "unsure about his sexuality" as you put it.
