Just getting back into bowling after 40 year absent. Things have changed. What I would like to know, all things being equal, is there an ideal impact number? Would it be, wt x sp = impact rate

Bowling is about entry angle.

Your attempting to knock down about 35 pounds of pins, with a maximum weight ball of 16lbs. When thrown correctly, the ball hits 4 pins.

The game is about hitting the pocket at the proper angle, so your ball neither deflects too much or drives too hard. Thus sending the requisite pins in the the proper direction to impact the other 6 pins.
