Bowling/Thumb Holes

Question
Hello,
I have been having a lot of problems with my thumb/thumb holes.  I have never had this issue before but I can't seem to find a fix.  I recently switched from sleeves to slugs and I really like the feel.  I can't, however, seem to find a way to consistently come out clean.  I have tried the thumb protector tapes, insert tapes, the special thumb gloves, everything.  Nothing gives me as good a feel as just using nothing.  When I use nothing, however, I my thumb gets sore and I can't come out clean.  I guess this must be due to the slug and not the drilling cause it is drilled identical to my others with sleeves.  Do you have any thoughts?  Thanks!

Answer
Ron,
Got to assume the thumb sleeves are keeping you more secure (are they tapers or ovals?). When you use slugs your thumbs are either tighter (leading to the soreness) or your gripping and they hang (also more friction).

I'd suggest a larger initial hole with adjusted pitch (less reverse or more forward) to make the ball easier to hold on to, without having to hold ON.

Thanks for the question. Good bowling.
