Bowling/fitting a ball

Question
Hey Chip, I have been bowling for about 10 years now and I still can't seem to get the right fell in my bowling ball. I have to pinch my thumb just enough to mess up my swing and delivery. Should I drill the thumb with more reverse pitch or try a different approach?

Answer
I would not try more reverse pitch.  That would probably make you squeeze the ball even more.
A quick thing to try would be an Ebonite Thumb Straight.  I know several people that use those with success.
If that does not work, I would have your span checked.  A span that is too short or too long will cause you to have to squeeze the ball as well.
If the thumb hole is too large or too much bevel you will squeeze the ball more than you want.
If none of the ball changes, or the thumb straight work, see if you can get a coach to take a look at your game.  Sometimes a timing issue can cause a bad feel with the ball.

Good luck,
Chip
