Questionhello my name josh i carry about a 180 in my lg and only bowl once a week. im a lefty and i just bought a hammer black widow pearl actually two of them..i had the first one drilled and i was wondering what you would recommend as to the second...im not familiar with technical words but the gentleman at the pro shop drilled my ball for a big break which was requested. my concern is where the pin is placed? if i line the thumb hole in the middle of the fingers my pin is at about 11:00 to 11:30...it doesnt seem right and it doesnt break like i was expecting....so now, will moving the fingers left or right allow my ball to break more?...ie. the ball looks funny.....im very appreciative of your help and response, reason why i am asking is becausewhen i started i leaned as a righty any my big break ball always had the pin at about 2:00 or 2:30 the confusion is why wouldnt it be like 9:30 or 10:00 for a lefty
AnswerJosh,
The big break you asked for may have put the pin 3 3/8 to 4 inches from your positive axis point. Did the pro shop guy get your axis? Do you know what the co-ordinates are?
Do you throw the ball slower than most? The higher pin placement may have been to help push the ball down lane some.
Excess top weight, tighter lane conditions, more ball speed, longer pattern, all could contribute to the ball going longer and not hooking as much. Where is the mass bias (oval logo, small locater pin) placed on your current Widow? With a strong flaring ball, like the Widow, the position of your pin, mass bias, a weight hole, the grip (and depth of the holes) should maximize the benefits of the core.
Your last question is very valid. But you may roll the ball differently as a natural lefty versus how you threw growing up as a right hander. Are the ball speeds similar? Tracking significantly differently would be my first guess. Where does the ball track? in relationship to the finger and thumb hole?

Thanks for the questions. Please let me know more, so I can get a better feel for the effect your getting and how the ball is drilled?
