Bowling/Drill Pattern

QuestionHey Chip,
I recently received the new altitude shift 16 lb bowling ball as a present. I used to bowl back in the day and had about an 180 avg. I would call myself a stroker being that my ball I used to use was just straight drilled to fit my hand w/ no tips. It is 14 lbs and I can rifle it resulting in great pin carry but I dont get any revolutions and little to no hook. I would like to play a lot more and add to my consistency. I am looking to change to more of a tweener and throw a ball that produces more revolutions and has a strong backend turn toward the pocket. Consequently, reducing the amount of splits and inconsistency of my straight ball. Basically, I know nothing about drilling and am open to all suggestions. Whether, it be drill pattern/angle/type of tip or any knowledge that you think would help. I am also willing to change my release/form to achieve a better score. Thank you for your time.
AnswerIf you want to create a better release, I would suggest going to a fingertip grip. This will give you a better feel and the ability to creat some revolutions and turn.
I would also go with a basic layout on the ball. The more aggressive the layout, the less conditions the ball will work on. You might even have to polish the ball, depending on the lane conditions you bowl on and the speed at which you throw it.
This ball will give you more power once you learn how to control it.
Good luck,
Chip
