Bowling/My ball is acting differently
Expert: - 3/16/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I have a storm pyro with a very aggressive drill pattern and I had it resurfaced the other day. So wanting to know how it was going to do on league night I threw it a couple of times. That is when I noticed it would go out about 10 feet hook and then just flatten out like I threw a straight ball. My house does not oil the lanes when there is no league that day and this was one of those days. Is this the reason my ball was doing this? Just running out of steam too early because there was no oil to bring it down the lane before it started to hook? Or is it something to do with the resurfacing? They didn't do a great job on it and it kind of looks like they did it by hand. Let me know what you think
ANSWER: Derek,
Any ball can "hook out/roll out" if there is no oil on the lane.
Your pearl particle ball with the strong layout should hook strongly as the oil volume decreases on the lane, if their is no oil, the reaction you saw is VERY LIKELY.
I would like further information. What do you mean "They didn't do a great job on it and it kind of looks like they did it by hand." What does it look like that it wasn't a great job? What does it look like "done by hand?" What did the resurface cost? Did they explain what they would do? What were your expectations?
Thanks for the questions. Please let me know details.

QUESTION: Well, you can still see my old track a little and there are swirl marks some small some big like if you wax a car and you use two different circular motions. The resurface cost $20. I asked the other guys at the lanes what their balls looked like after resurfacing them there and the most coined phrase was, "Alot better than yours".
AnswerDerek,
Did you bowl with the ball? How did it work on some oil?
Were you specific about wanting a resurface? We charge upwards of $45 for a full resurface, because the process takes quite awhile. A soft resurface, usually performed on a ball spinner can take out little nicks, but is primarily to freshen the surface, bring the ball back to the surface texture when new.
Little nicks in the track and on the ball should be gone. Bigger or deeper scrapes/nicks/gouges can't be removed with out removing a lot of the surface. Going from the balls maximum size (circumference) to minimum size is only .00030 of an inch. Was the work done on a resurfacing machine (Haus, Cook or Powerhouse)? On a ball spinner?
Where is the store? What's the name of the center (if in a center)?
