Question
Hi Chip.  I wanted to ask you what does the pin distance mean in the overall performance of a bowling ball.  Also what pin placements and Layout is good for Dry, Heavy Oil, and Spotty Lanes.  Is Longer the pin placement creates more hook or visa versa?

Also I have seen a lot of bowling balls with the Pro Cg and Pro Pin.  What is the difference in these bowling balls to regular pin bowling balls.

Answer
In general, the further the pin from the cg, the more differential that is created.  This will add flare potential which should creat more hook potential.

Pro balls will have greater distances between the pin and cg.  There are times a ball like that can be great, but the layouts can be a bit tricky on them and may not be as versatile.

Layout options can be found on the Storm and Ebonite websites.

For different lane conditions, look at coverstock and cores first.  Layouts can be used to fine tune ball reaction.

Good luck,
Chip
