how do i stop from getting a solid ten pin on my strike ball

Ron,
Your ball is finishing strongly, pushing the 6 around the 10. If you move forward on the approach (if you have room), the adjustment will change the angle enough to help carry.

Or, move left slightly at your set-up on the approach, target just inside your current target and throw the ball normally. The additional skid will help the ball delay enough to help the carry.
