Bowling/smoother release
Expert: - 9/13/2008
QuestionI have been bowling for many years and unfortunately adopted bad habits early on. I used to severely snap my wrist on my release to force revs. I was finally able to correct that over this past summer and smoothed out quite a bit. The problem I am having now is that i have picked up speed and lost revs. I have an extremely high back swing (probably little higher than Tommy Jones). How will I be able to pick up some of the lost revs while still maintaining the smoothness i worked so hard to finally get?
AnswerBrent,
You smoothed out your delivery, now work on your rev rate. Practice a one step drill, working on slide and release with the idea of using elbow, wrist, and fingers to get the ball turning more.
Many players try to impact the ball at the release and late turn and hit take away from the effect they desire. Work on beginning to effect the release when your ball and hand are at the top of your swing. The slight pop from elbow, wrist and fingers when the ball is at the optimum leverage position (below the shoulder) will improve your rev rate.
Work with a coach. Thanks for the question.
