Bowling/Lane approach and proper cleaning/chemicals

Question
Mr. Friedl,

When cleaning and maintaining a synthetic lane approach, would the use of rubbing alcohol and/or Windex for spot cleaning have any effect on a bowler's footing while making an approach? Is it common for bowling alleys to use such products to maintain/clean approach surfaces? Any guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

George

Answer
George,
There are many types of synthetic lanes. The manufacturers usually have a recommended cleaning/spot adjustment procedure and "chemical".

Straight isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) comes in a variety of purity levels (70,80,90), but the highest can be combustible (NOT SUGGESTED).

I've used recommended spray cleaners or isopropyl (70) in centers with Brunswick synthetics (AnvilLane or Pro AnvilLane). I would not advise any product with color, fragrance or potential detergent additives (Windex, 409, etc). The additives could remain and (the residue) cause more problems on the approach.

Thanks for the questions. Have a great new year.
