Bowling/Getting a new ball

Question
Hello Warren,
I am currently in the market for a new bowling ball. I am 24 years old, relatively athletic, weigh 185 pounds and stand 6' tall. I am a cranker and throw my current ball (14 pound Scorchin' Inferno) around 15 miles per hour. I would consider the house lanes where I bowl to be heavily oiled.  I was looking at possibly picking up a Roto Grip Mutant cell when they become available. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Mike

Answer
Mike,
The Mutant Cell looks to be quite a bit of ball. Should fit the bill.

But, for your size and athleticism, I'm surprized at your ball speed. Especially rolling a 14 lb ball. I've written a bunch of times about how a ball should just hang in one's hands when arm is relaxed. Your slower speed suggests that you must grip the ball, thus the slower speed. I'd strongly suggest you be refit, before getting into something new. just to get an improved feel.

Good luck with the new ball. There are quite a few very good balls on the market and more coming out within the next couple weeks. Thanks for the question. Good bowling.
