Bowling/Switching Hands
Expert: - 11/25/2009
QuestionWarren,
I recently injured my left hand and am being forced to learn how to bowl right handed. I started with a one step approach to learn how my balance should feel at finish, and am capable enough to throw a couple of balls left handed so that I could record it to see what my mechanics looked like and to see if I could get a feel for where my body should be during my armswing, approach, and finish. I was wondering if you had any advice or ideas on what I could do to speed up the process a bit. I'm feeling fairly comfortable from the right side but can't seem to shake the feeling that I'm missing something in my approach to this switch. Thanks for any help you can offer.
AnswerJason,
Nothing can speed up the change in muscle memory but practice. Practice makes perfect, but perfect practice makes permanent.
Practice alone will create the muscle memory you want but over practice (or imperfect practice) and you'll get into bad habits from fatigue or boredom. Good luck with the transition. Thanks for the question.
