Question
Sir:As a winter-time project I have studied up on how bowling balls are made and drilled. I have made my own drilling device for my own balls; not as a business, and a weighing scales. The problem is getting the general layout of older balls so I can do some experimentation, to better understand the breaking of the ball as it gets to the pocket. No pain; no gain. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thank you, Roger Cain

Answer
Roger,
Volunteer at a local pro shop (you can help out around the store for the information you desire). Subscribe to the bowling trades (Bowling This Month, Pro Shop Operator, Bowlers Journal International Magazines). Get formal training from the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA) or IBPSIA accredited training from several vendors and distributors.

Not many people will want to share their knowledge for free (acquired over years of trial and error and expensive training) to someone looking to do the same thing. Whatever your intention now, things change.

Understanding ball reaction comes from a good pro shop operator when you ask questions, and from a good coach who can describe and provide examples of various techniques and options.

Thanks for the questions. I hope this gets you started on your journey. Bowl well.
