Bowling/AMF Bullwhip replacement
Expert: - 2/20/2009
QuestionHi, the last ball I owned was 14 lbs AMF's Bullwhip Pearl. This ball worked
great for me in tournaments and I'm looking for a similar replacement - low
RG, similar diff range. What will you recommend in today's market? I'm a
stroker with a medium swing, fast speed, low revs. PS. Looking forward to a
professional opinion. I'm picking up bowling after more than a 10-year break
:) Loving this sport again
AnswerGrace,
The Early 1997 AMF Bullwhip (a pearl Ball of the Year) had what is maximum allowable Radius of Gyration (RG). The very center heavy ball helped the rev challenged bowlers of the day. Many of today's balls have numbers similar.
I'd recommend the AMF300 Nkryption Code, possibly with a surface adjustment (smoother). Storm's Agent, (a now discontinued ball that may be available at a great price) or HyRoad (a hybrid cover).
Thanks for the question. Good luck.
In addition, after relaying your question to Del Warren, a former ball designer at AMF (who worked on the Bullwhip), Del suggested the Brunswick Rattler, as a good option too. The differential Radius of Gyration (RG Diff.) is a bit lower than the Bullwhip was, so a little stronger layout will strengthen that element (suggested Mr. Warren). Right from the designers mouth. Good luck and good bowling.
And special thanks to USA Bowling Gold Coach Del Warren, now with the Kegel Training Center in Lake Wales, FL., and President of the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA).
