Bowling/drift and swing not fluid

Question
I have a problem that I need to fix.  In my 2nd to 3rd step I take a 5 to 8 board step to the right and in my back swing I tend to control the swing resulting in a missed shot.  With the drift I'm tend to swing the ball and on a sport pattern I usually can't bring the ball back.  I'm trying to play more straight and this is when I noticed the problems If I can fix them I think it will help all around sport and regular league shots.

Thank you

Answer
If you have not, take some video of your game.  Watch the direction of your pushaway and the start of your swing.  If you start in the wrong direction, you will drift out of line with your steps and your swing.

Also, if you can find the last 2 issues of Bowling this Month, Bill Hall has had two really good article on the the approach.  There are tips on the direction of the steps too.

Good luck,
Chip
