Bowling/Balldrilling helicopter
Expert: - 3/11/2009
QuestionI play a semi roller style long time, average 210.
I´m 53 years old, and now the Ballweight (14 IBS) is to high.
I will try to change to a helicopter Style with a 11 IBS Ball.
My Question:
What kind of drilling is to do for playing a helicopter style???
(ocnventional, semi tipp, full tip ?? )
What kind of Ball ?? (Poliester; Urethane or else ?? )
Drilling Balance ? Top weight or botton weight or else???
We have a good Pro Shop, but never before drill a Ball for helicopter style.
Cane you instruct me???
AnswerWalter,
Helicopter style bowlers use flexibility and countless hours of practice to execute this very strenuous delivery. Many do so much damage to the wrists, arms, shoulders, etc. they retire very early. I strongly recommend you do NOT attempt this.
Bowling equipment is so very strong these days that with a grip adjustment and possibly dropping a pound you can continue competing at your current level. Lighter entry level or mid level balls work as good sometimes better (more controllable), than light versions of top flight equipment (the cores in 10 to 13lb balls are often the same as entry level balls).
Age usually brings reduction in ball speed, joint stiffness and loss of dexterity. So, you roll slower, don't have as much leverage and can't execute as consistently. Try to play a little straighter, use less hand action and get less aggressive bowling equipment.
You play at a high level. I'd hate for you to try a VERY demanding style, injure yourself and have to quit for awhile, maybe forever. If your driller still would like information on the Helicopter drill specs, I could help him/her. Have them contact me at: revbowl@gmail.com.
Thanks for the questions. Good luck and good bowling.
