Question I'm 70, average 220 in senior leagues and 191 in sport patterns and have moderate to low rev rate with 15+mph @ 50 feet. I stay behing the ball well and have some success circling when in deep. I have best results with label lev. above and below the ring finger but seem to lose feeling of control with axis layouts. I've had great luck with pearls and hybrids but don't carry well with solids. your thoughts would be appreciated as I'd like to be able to use solids when setting up the shot. Thank You.
Answer It would seem that the only time you would be able to use solid coverstocks would be on the heavier oil conditions, or to try to break down the pattern.
They probably dont carry well for you since they will burn up a bit quicker unless there is enough oil in the front of the pattern to get it down the lane. Even when trying to use a solid to break down a pair, it may break it down too much in the front part of the pattern and still create weak hitting power.
This kind of reaction is probably why you do not like axis layouts as they would produce the same kind of ball roll.
If you want to try a solid, I would suggest placing the pin above the middle finger. Place the CG to the right of the center of grip and if an extra hole is needed, place it just past your PAP and pitch it downward as well.
