Bowling/maximize power for lighter ball
Expert: - 4/11/2009
QuestionI tore up my shoulder six months ago bowling (Proximal Bicep Tendon tear). I am healing poorly, if able to return to bowling, I may need to use a lighter ball. How do I best maximize the hitting power using a lighter ball? Not sure what weight I may end up with. I am 64 years old, average was 188, used an Angular One. Ebonite 15 lb ball. Not a cranker, slower speed with control and usually in the pocket. Working on therapy for the arm now. Any suggestions appreciated.
AnswerGeorge,
The dynamics in a 14 pound ball is very similar to 15's or 16's.
The concern for you should be not changing your delivery. Often when dropping down in weight, a player will start turning the ball more and/or throwing it harder.
Assuming your speed won't increase because of the injury, trying to get stronger effect at the pins usually means shinier covers, stronger layouts (and add a spare ball).
Thanks for the question. Good luck with rehab.
