Bowling - rolling over thumb

Expert: Warren Friedl - 5/4/2009

Question
I recently drilled a Striking Motion , 13# for a woman. At release her thunb was at the 9 o'clock position. (suitcase)Balled rolled over thumb hole. Changed her hand position and put her thumb at release at approx. 11 to 12 o'clock. Still rolls over thumb, although just barely. My thought was to plug the ball and drill it as a full roller but I wanted to get a second opinion. What say you? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Steve,
Is her other stuff rolling through the grip (full roller)?

How does the ball roll? Is she knocking pins down? Would she want to change her delivery?

The core in a 13# ball isn't doing much for her. If the ball is working OK leave it alone. If she needs more help and doesn't want to change her release, alter the ball.

A full roller leverage layout might have it hook more but is that what she needs? wants? Does her ball speed require a full roller layout but earlier roll or later hook?

Good luck with this. Let me know what she does to the ball (speed, revs, straighter - hooking it)? Thanks for the question.
