I have been out of Bowling(a sport Ive always loved),since 1994( I turned to be an OTR Truck Driver), but now have stopped. I wish to get "back in the game" severely!! Problem: Ever since my Ebonite RedWolf with "Megabite" was stolen I now am faced with WHICH ONE(take index finger and blubblubblub up and down of mouth fast)would be an exact twin(if thats possible) That BEAUTIFUL pin crusher took my avg from 173 to 191. The following balls I have come up with(trying to acquire 1ball for dry-med lanes and 1 other for med-hvy oiled lanes). Footnote** I have never owned a plastic one for spares, could ALWAYS cover with starting ball MrRedWolf.
Anyways,(I dont mean to spam)Ebonite-MAGIC,MAGIC TOUCH,THEONEPEARL Hammer-HOTSAUCE,HOTSAUCEPEARL LaneMasters-BLACKPEARL,BLACKPEARLREACTIVE AMF-MEGAFRICTION and 900Global-BREAKPOINT,BREAKPOINTREACTIVE.
My stats and style:
6'4 283 age53 Have been told I was a Stroker,Tweener,Cranker(<--never liked that monogram,I may get cranky but dont HIGH rev ball). Im rthander-hit 2nd arrow from rt-ball goes str up lane(maybe 20-22bph)-then with STRONG backend crushes pins(told you,missmyredwolf)-holds ball straightout(instead of cupping THEN utilize the pushout)<--I feel do away with as many steps as you can so as to NOT affect your timing or level shoulders-hit 2nd arrow on release-come up "shaking hands"position-my ball on backswing NEVER goes any higher than the BOTTOM of my rt shoulder blade(b4 release index finger points at arrow THEN thumb is at 12oclock) Ive always liked a "natural"grip vise semi-full finger tip,RedWolf was drilled semi and I told shop ball feels like it "looseing" on backswing didnt want it redrilled.
So, I will await your expert opinion BEFORE I go to the shop. I have researched many hrs on the comp to "beef" up the nowaday ball knowledge. In 1981 when Mark Roth beat Guppy Troup and Earl Anthony in 1985(I think) on tv, all my friends said, "Dude, you bowl JUST like him and loft it out there with "speed"(BTW,my speed is NOT fast to me)(hes my mentor)then he,(in my opinion turned cranker with high revs, BUT, I still wouldnt change. I am sincerely sorry for writing a novel, any help will be appreciated.
thankyou,
David
Answer David,
The Red Wolf was a high flare, fairly center heavy ball, with a sanded cover.
I'd eliminate the Pearls because of your speed.
Leaving the Magic, Sauce, Mega Friction and Break Point. The Magic, Sauce and Break Point all are finished very smooth (4000). Changing the surface is an option with one of these but maintenance might be an issue.
Leaving the Mega Friction, finished at 1000 with an Abralon pad and containing a strong core. It is one of the strongest balls made.
On newer oils, and synthetic lanes, the stronger core and cover is not a bad bet. Depending on where you want to play on the lanes, I'd make sure the ball driller knows how hard you throw and watches you.
Thanks for the question. Let me know what you get and how it rolls.
