Bowling/Thumb stops the ball spin
Expert: - 8/13/2009
QuestionHello, sir.
I'm sure you've heard this and have been asked this a lot of times but my thumb just doesn't exit when it needs to.
When the ball is going down the lane I can see that it is trying to spin and break back but it just doesn't. People have told me (though I didn't need them to) that my thumb exit is too late. I can feel it as well, but after a few weeks, I still can't get it out.
Am I pinching the ball?
I appreciate your time,
Joey
AnswerJoey,
Best description of the release is that the ball should let go of YOU. Late release retards your rev rate and increases tilt. The correct fit is so different from what most people experience. It almost feels like the ball won't come off, yet because of span and pitches, it lets go at the right point in your swing.
You are gripping the ball. Either tighten the hole or adjust the thumb hole's pitches, so it doesn't feel so much like it wants to fall off prematurely. And, concentrate on keeping the arm/swing more releaxed.
Texture, flexibility even hand size contributes to the art of correctly fitting a bowling ball. Work with your driller to make some adjustments.
Thanks for the question, good luck. Let me know how things work out.
