Bowling/thumb trouble

Question
QUESTION: I recently purchased a Secret Agent ball and had it fitted with a thumb slug.  Although my average has increased (187), the area at the base of my thumb where it meets the web is becoming increasingly painful.  Is there anything I can do with regards to drilling, tape, etc. that will alleviate this pain?

ANSWER: Check to make sure the slug is cut down to the surface of the ball.  It may be a little higher than the ball and that will put a lot of pressure at the base of the thumb.  Smooth it down and then bevel the front edge of the thumb hole and it should be fine.

Good luck,
Chip

QUESTION: If I still have issues, any other suggestions? I've heard that removing the slug and drilling the thumb hole to a more oval shape could help. Thanks again Chip!

Answer
I dont feel that going to an oval hole is the answer here. Ovals do fit better, but if not bevelled or cut down correctly, there will still be a lot of pressure where you are feeling it.
One other thing you may take a look at is to make sure the span is not a bit longer than you are used to.  If the span is too long, it will cause a lot of pressure at the base of the thumb.  Adding a bit more bevel should help even if the span is a bit long.

Good luck,
Chip
