Question
My question is a two parter: First, what does a "unit" of oil mean exactly? Second what is a common amount of oil for a house shot in gross milliliters? Thanks.

Answer
Gabe,
I don't remember the physical equivalent of a "unit". I'll follow up when I come across the specification.

I'd think somewhere between 25 and 28mL (I believe 2.5 to 2.8 milliliters) would reflect a THS (Typical House Shot). But remember, oils are wonderful things but can be very different and can serve only as well as they can be optimally placed on a lane. Some oils are too thick for older reservoir type oiling machines, while some are more lubricious (slicker) and more useful on lanes with texture (wood, HPL, etc.). The whole lane conditioning process is the key (system, schedule, products, cleaning, staff)

You could have the best oil on the planet for your lanes but if the technique(s) or machine used to apply it (and remove it) is inconsistent, you're in trouble. Thanks for the questions. I'll try to get back soon.
