Bowling/Drilling Pattern

Question
Have a customer whose ball rotation is a 'spinner'. He wants a drilling to help the ball react more on the backend. Lane dressing is medium. Would placing the weight block 45 degrees to the ball track assist the ball reaction? His ball oil ring is about 6" across. Any suggestions?  Thanks

Greetings Dick. Often times new drillings may not help. If really pressed for a drilling you can max out the RG/Differential by placing the pin above bridge of the fingers. Your customer needs to purchase the correct ball for the condition first. This is the most important factor in bowling. An entry level ball, or medium ball is the key. Outside of that, a lower surface adjustment would be most appropriate. In my experience three to four board "more" of hook "may be" achieved with a redrilling. However it depends on asymmetrical or symmetrical make up, core and cover combinations.
A redrilling may leave your customer pretty ticked off, being a spinner. Especially, after paying for a redrilling in which the results may have been best achieved with a mere surface change cost of 5 dollars.
In summary Dick. You can try pinning the ball above the fingers, if this turns out to be your 45 degree spot, then perfect if it works. Best experienced based on your question is; try using a low surface grit change for your customer first. Spinners who do not get recovery or reaction on the back end, either have significant speed or not the right ball in their arsenal. A spinning release is significant because it inherently has lots of revs on the ball. We all marvel at this.
However, spinning with the wrong ball surface, the wrong ball, to much ball speed at delivery, or worst yet, spinning in "high volume, medium oil" is the kiss of death for a bowler on the lanes. Have your customer consider a surface change, then possibly purchasing an entry level or medium reacting ball. The Storm Tropical Heat, Frantic, Hammer Green Vibe, Brunswick Karma, and Ebonite Cyclone are my top picks for this season with medium patterns. These type of balls will not let those precious revs go to waste. Take care, God's blessings to you for helping others.
