Bowling/axis tilt

Question
My ball has always tracked extremely close to both the finger and thumbs holes. I have been trying to move the track away from the finger and thumb holes with no success. I'm at a loss as to how to do this. I assume it is an axis tilt issue based on hand position at the release stage. What is the issue(s) that causes a high track and how does one move the track.

Hi Randy,
You are probably very correct that it is the way you are releasing the ball. Basically you are providing more of a straighter finger release with the ball than a standard 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock release. I often hear the voice of my mentor asking one question in cases like this.... he use to always ask, "do you like the reaction you are getting out of the ball?"
So consider this in your evaluation of changing where your ball tracks. The standard release often puts the thumb and fingers aligned to the left at release from 10 or 11 o'clock. with both the thumb and fingers coming from the 4 o'clock position pointing to the left.(Right handed bowlers)at release.
The best advice any coach can give you is to seek out a coach who can put eyes on you and see your release. Working with a bowling professional is the key since you have been doing this for a number of years. There is a drilling method of pitching the thumb to the right, for (right handed bowlers) to move the track away from the finger holes.
In summary Randy, see a coach and let them check you out. If suggested by a professional coach or pro shop staffer, you may want to try pitching your thumb differently.
Best of luck to you. I am sure with a little persistence, you will see a world of difference as you progress at changing your release under the watchful eye of a certified coach. I wish you many clean games in the future!
