Bowling/Arthritis in thumb

Question
I have arthritis in my right thumb and am constantly dropping the ball.  I have bowled league for years and it is progressively getting worse.  Last week, however, I had a blood bruise under my thumb nail.  Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to stop dropping the ball and the possible cause of the blood bruise?

Answer
Since you are dropping the ball, your bruise is coming from squeezing the ball.  I would suggest you have your pro shop take a look at your ball fit.  In order to help hold onto the ball, you will need to go with less reverse or even forward pitch in the thumg.  If this is done, you will need to adjust the span as well.
I would also have a coach watch you throw the ball.  A timing issue can cause you to drop the ball as well.

Good luck,
Chip
