Question
In the bowling release in which direction up/down left/right should the thumb have to release to insure the best/proper release... I am a right hander?

Answer
Id,
You have the option of delivering a ball several different ways to seek more axis rotation, more axis tilt or less of both/either.

Your delivery should be the most consistent you can generate for a newer player. For the wily veteran, using different hand positions usually allows the option to play a part of the lane for three games (typical league session) and not having to fish around moving your starting point attempting to find a more favorable path to the pocket.

The multitude of bowling ball options (available these days)usually allows a player to "ball down" (use lesser balls or weaker layouts/drills# to help control the part of the lane you'd prefer to bowl on, rather than change how you roll the ball #as changing your delivery on the fly can be VERY confusing if you've not been doing it for some time#. "Balling up" when you must move onto more oil may not be as successful, if your basic delivery is weak.

Work on consistency. Evaluate success with your delivery. Seek assistance or coaching to change what you do if it isn't as effective as you'd like.

Thanks for the question. Good luck and bowl well.
