Bowling - BALL RELEASE

Expert: joe foti - 1/30/2004

Question
I NEED HELP CHANGING MY RELEASE,AT ONE TIME I WAS THROWING WHAT I CALL AN OVERROLL,I HAVE GOT TO A FULL ROLL BUT I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT HOW TO THROW A 3/4 ROLL. I AVERAGE 200PLUS,BUT I THINK I COULD DO BETTER WITH THE CHANGE.

Answer
Rick,
The best way to explain a good bowling release is to take a football, throw an under-hand spiral. If you can do that, you can effectively hook a bowling ball. When you put your hand in the bowling ball, point your index finger at your tagret, your fingers at about 7 o'clock (picture a clock face), and your thumb about 1 o'clock. Lock everything in place. When you get to the release point in your swing, don't turn your wrist or hand. The natural motion of your arm moving forward will create enough turn to give you an effictive hook. Remember, thumb out first, let your fingers rotate the ball.
Thanks and Good luck Joe
