Bowling/Ball Selection

Question
Hi Chip,

My wife Ann and I know you from your time spent at Don Carter's Pro Shop in Kenner, Louisiana.  Have put in some time and improved my average from the 160's when you were here, to upper 190's and low 200's. Ann gave me a gift certificate ($200 to start) for a new ball.  Want to step up to a higher performance ball (currently have Columbia Icon2), but don't know where to begin; outside of oponions from pro-shop personnel. Picked out my Icon2 from suggestion from instructor Betty Chin 2 years ago.  Six months later it was old history. Problem is, all the sites I found don't explain the "How To's" of ball selection; just that each ball maker has a better ball than the next.

Also trying to learn a little about drilling options and the corresponding lane actions.  Would like to hold a somewhat knowledgable conversation with Dickie, our house pro who will be drilling my next ball.

Chip, know this was a lot of writing, but I'd really like to know where and how to begin making (mostly) my own decisions.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year.  Let us know when you're back around Kenner.
