Bowling/Heavy Oil
Expert: - 12/11/2007
QuestionHi, I'm Cody, I bowl for my high school team and average around a 208. Before tournaments and meets they sometimes heavily oil the lanes. The balls I currently have can't quite get the job done during the first one or two games when the lanes are freshly oiled no matter how much i try to adjust. Can you recommend a good heavy oil ball?
Thanks,
Cody
AnswerHow much do you hook the ball? How hard do you throw? I can suggest something to compliment your current equipment. Rank each ball by amount of hook, and list all that you currently throw.
Oil is a problem for some because they're used to swinging the ball all the time. If you can go fairly straight, the Mammoth from Brunswick is a very aggressive surface, but a longer later core.
Some of the stronger balls on the market, have smoother covers (Black Widow, No Mercy and Beat'n, Resurgence, The Rising, Attitude Shift, T-Road Solid, and LevRG). The covers can be adjusted (made rougher)and we've done just that for some bowlers.
The layout and cover preparation will allow you to get the reaction your looking for, but the stronger the ball is setup the quicker you may have to put it away.
