Bowling/Moving from 2 fingers to 3

Question
Chip,
I have been bowling with 2 fingers for a long time averaging 170+ with a house ball but for x-mas i got a new scout reactive ball and got it drilled for my finger tips. I cannot figure out how to curve the ball with this drill, I can hit the pocket nearly everytime without my thumb, but hardly ever with my thumb and rarely hit over 100. So basically what do I need to do to change my 2 finger approach over to the finger tip throw w/thumb.

Thanks
Josh

Answer
The first thing is to try and keep your wrist firm.  While not using your thumb, you will have the tendancy to cup your wrist.  It is harder to do with your thumb in, but by keeping your wrist straight, you can create some of the same action as not using your thumb.  Keep your thumb at the one oclock position, if you are right handed, and while releasing the ball, rotate your thumb to 10 oclock.  This will create some side rotation and create some hook, albeit less than what you are used to.  If you can remember the feel of your hand position without your thumb in the ball, over time, you can create that same feel with your thumb in.  You will need to learn to relax your thumb during the release and not squeeze the ball to hold on to it.
You should be more consistant and make more spares........the strikes will come.

Good luck,
Chip
