Question Ive been bowling for many year and currently bowl in three leagues. I average between 185-195 between the three. This year tho, Ive developed a bad habbit of not lifting the ball. I continue to hit my same marks, but not lifting, I am struggling to hit the pocket. It almost seems like Im palming the ball instead of lifting it through completely. Ive been trying to slow my game down a little (usually im between 16-17-speed wise), but I just cant get the release anymore. I know this is a basic "Bowling 101" but any suggestions would be greatful!
Answer I would try to work on the release at home with a football. Toss the football underhand into a chair and try to get the ball to spiral in flight. Usually when one loses their hook, they are over-rotating during the relseae or collapsing the wrist too soon. It would be important to make sure your timing is good too. If your feet are too far ahead of the ball, you will not be able keep the ball on your hand to impart the lift and rotation. Also, if your body is bent to far forward at the waist you can lose leverage as well.
