Bowling/Release spin

Question
I've tried to get that spin that most bowlers get when they release the ball, and now matter how much I watch others and imitate, the ball doesn't spin how it should. What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Anthony,
Never try to spin a bowling ball. You want revolutions, not spin. This is easier in person, but, let's give it a try. If you have a football hold it like you are going to throw an under-hand spiral. This makes a pretty good bowling release. When you place your hand ing the bowling ball, point your index finger at your target. Thumb placement should be at 12 o'clock, picture a clock.
LOCK everything in place. Let the natural motion of your hand through the swing create rotation. Your thumb should release first, without turning, let your fingers lift and rotate the ball. Do not "grab" with your fingers. Let the ball roll off your fingers. You may have to tweak the thumb position a little. Remember stay behind the ball and don't turn your wrist.  Give it a try. It may take a few games to get the feel. Thanks Joe
