Question
Hello I'm new to bowling My first year on a league.I'm  right handed my thumb is in the 12 O clock I stand on the 3rd dot when i release the ball my hand turns out as if i was shacking a hand but the ball slides to the pins and not hooking. also I was told i was throwing the ball to hard. Also do i need to put my left toe on the 3rd dot or right toe thanks for the help ..... Bruce  

Answer
You will want to line up using the toe of your left foot.  Since this is the foot you slide on, you will be able to see if your approach is in a consistent direction.

If you want to try and hook the ball, keep your thumb at the 1 oclock position and rotate it to 10 oclock as the ball passes your ankle.  Concentrate on rolling the ball off of your hand with your fingers firm.

Let the ball swing your arm and your speed may be a bit slower.  Dont swing the ball with your arm.
