Question
how long is a bowling alley and why was bowling banned in ney york in 19th century?

Answer
You can find all of the specifications of a bowling lane by going to bowl.com and going to the usbc link.  There should be a link to rules and regulations there.  From foul line to the end of the pin deck is about 63ft and from the foul line to the headpin is 60ft.

I am not sure about the ban, but bowling has been banned in places due to the use of bowling as part of a religous practice.

I am sure you can find that on bowl.com and looking for the bowling hall of fame and museum link.

Good luck,
Chip
