Bowling/How to choose bowling shoes?

Question
Hi there,

I am new to bowling, I want to buy a pair of bowling shoes.  I found there are some called "rental shoes", like the one you rent. And some looked like "tennis shoes".  I wonder which style should I get?  Is it any different between those 2 styles?

Thanks!

Waiyi

Answer
Hi Waiyi
The difference between rental shoes and personal shoes that you would buy from your proshop is the soles. Rental shoes have leather slide soles on both feet so that righties and lefties can use them. When you go to purchase a pair for yourself, your non slide foot will have a rubber type base for added traction (most of the time). the slide sole is usually also made of leather. Dexter makes a wide selection of bowling shoes that are pretty hip and very comfortable. they resemble the "tennis shoe " you described.
