Question
Im unclear on what excatly the pin position on a bowling ball is.  I have had about 5-6 balls drilled since i began bowling 5 years ago, all by the same proshop.  I have never asked what it all means because they do a great job.  I just tell them what kind of ball I want, then they give me the best fit I can have in a ball.  I am looking online for a new ball, and dont know what I should check for pin position on the ball when I buy it.  If it helps to determine by knowing what type of bowler I am, I am stroker with a 3-step aproach a a little above average ball speed.

Answer
The pin is signifies the orientation of the core in the bowling ball.  Along with the CG and Mass Bias, it used in determining the layout of the ball.
I usually look for a pin that is 3-4 inches from the CG.  This allows for the most layout and drilling options.

Good luck,
