my inserts are too tight and I was told I'm in between sizes and shound use acetate? to enlarge them so my fingers don/t swell up

Answer
The grips are static sizes. But some grip styles come in 16th's, some come in 32th's. (Drilled) Grip Holes come in 64th's.

Have your driller remove the grips, enlarge the grip holes, make the grip holes 63/64ths or 1 inch (if you are using standard size grips, 29/32's or 15/16's for smaller Outside Diameter grips), put the grips in, check the feel before you glue, (or just carve the sides of the holes, a little, where ever you need a little more room) reinstall the grips.

When altering the grip itself, it's hard to get a consistent feel by altering the contact surface (besides, the grip will start to wear too). Alter the hole which constricts the grip from expanding, so when you change grips (they should be changed periodically, they wear) the corrected hole will allow you the room you need for the grip to be comfortable. What style grip do you use?

Also, have the driller not glue the back of the grip. By having access to the hole, by pulling the grip away from the wall of the hole, you can adjust (make it bigger - scrape more from the wall, or make it smaller - shim, place something between the wall of the hole and the grip and tighten the hole, and thereby the grip).
