Bowling/placing a layout on a ball

Question
Hi
I am starting drilling the bowling balls, but guess I am quite lost. I have been reading a lot about different layouts and ball reactions depending on a pin position. The another question is how to do them. I understand that when having different (low, high) tracks the people should select the balls with different pin outs to get e.g. "same" leverage drilling. But, if you have a ball with some pin then there is nothing much to do.? You can just try to get it as close as possible keeping the CG in the 1" rule. The actual question is that why do you need to know PAP position (obtained from old ball) then? Supposing that no BH is needed.
Can you suggest some book or internet address for the basics of drilling?

Answer
The most important reason to know the PAP is to control the ball track.  It is not a good thing to have the ball flare over any holes and knowing the PAP will help reduce this.

For general layout information, you can go to most of the ball company web sites.  They have good information.

A couple of good books that will help you understand things would be Revolutions I and II by Chip Zeilke.(sp?)

Classic products in Ft Wayne and Bowlng Supply in Nashville hold seminars from time to time as well.

Good luck,
Chip
