Question
I am a medium speed full roller which does not generate a lot of turn,i would like to roll the ball as a semi roller to obtain more hook but i dont seem to be able to find the correct hand position and\or release. Any suggestions please.

Answer
Brian,
The best way to learn the proper bowling release is to start with a football. If you can throw an under-hand spiral with a football, you can hook a bowling ball. The key is to not turn your wrist. When you place your hand in the ball (bowling), you index finger should point at your target, your finger will be about 7 o'clock (think of a clock face), this will put your thumb between 4 and 5 o'clock. Point you forearm toward your target. Lock your wrist and arm. At release, your thumb should pop out just a split second before your fingers. Just let the natural motion of your swing rotate the ball. You don't need to do any fancy wrist turning etc. The position of your fingers is enough to hook the ball as they will naturally rotate the ball. You can also try putting your thumb in different postitions, example up at 12 o'clock, or 10 o'clock and watch how it changes the roll. Don't go past 9 o'clock, you never want your fingers in the top half of the ball.
Thanks and good luck Joe
