Bowling/side roll

Question
Hi Chip,

I would really like to get more side roll on my shot. The shot I currently throw is a low track, semi spinner that hooks quite a bit but I cannot get the ball down the lane on dry lanes.  Ive noticed a lot of people have a beautiful side spin to their shots that I would really like to throw but I havent been able to figure it out. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

Answer
If you get a chance to watch Pete Weber, he has the best release that accomplishes this side roll.  He lifts up the side of the ball.  The thing to watch for is over-turning while trying this.  This will cause the ball to even spin more and it will not want to read the lane at the breakpoint.
The other thing to work on is the set the ball down as smoothly as possible.  The more loft, the sooner the ball will read the lane on impact.  Think of trying to get your ball to skip on the surface of the lane much like skipping a stone on a lake.

Good luck,
Chip
